Chelsea, IOWA – According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, this unfortunate incident occurred right before 8 p.m. Thursday.
It happened near 1001 Station Street in Chelsea.
The responding officers found a man walking with a handgun.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety says a Tama County Deputy fired one shot and struck the 28-year-old man in the chest.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he later died.
He was identified as Dewey Wilfong III.
The deputy that fired the shot is now on paid administrative leave.
