Davenport, IA – Davenport City Administrator Doug Maxeiner has announced his resignation, citing significant health issues as the reason for his decision.

In a letter submitted to Mayor Mike Matson, Maxeiner stated that he will remain in his role until October 1, 2025, to help ensure a smooth leadership transition and to complete the hiring process for the city’s new fire chief and IT director.

Maxeiner, who has served in the role since 2017, described his appointment as city administrator as a highlight of his career. “I have cherished my time here,” he wrote.

“I wish the best for the City of Davenport moving forward and regret not being a part of its future successes.”

City officials have confirmed that plans for interim leadership will be discussed under the direction of the Davenport City Council. In the coming months, the city will also begin the formal search process to find a permanent replacement for Maxeiner.

City leadership expressed appreciation for Maxeiner’s years of service and his continued commitment to supporting the city through the upcoming transition.

The City of Davenport has asked for the community’s support and understanding as the process unfolds.
