Johnson County, IOWA – According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the focus will be on Highway 1 in rural Johnson County.
JCSO officials said that the Memorial Day weekend is historically one of the deadliest holidays for travel in Iowa and driving behaviors that lead to this increased risk are distracted driving, impaired drivers, aggressive driving and excessive speed.
In an attempt to make the roadways safer, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a special project to promote education and enforcement of these violations.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, when drivers see a police officer on the road the first thing they do is slow down.
This is the main reason why the JCSO officials are moving closer to zero fatalities on their roadways.
Their ultimate goal is to make the roads safer and lower the number of traffic related deaths that occur over the Memorial Day weekend, JCSO officials said.
