Iowa City, IOWA – According to the court documents, the 23-year-old defendant pleaded guilty in Friday.
His name is Sammy Hamed and he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
Prosecutors said the 23-year-old defendant was initially charged with first-degree murder in the Feb. 12, 2021 death of Quincy Russom.
The defendant reportedly shot the 19-year-old victim during a robbery.
Prosecutors said the defendant was one of several individuals inside the apartment when the 19-year-old victim was shot.
Hamed will be sentenced on May 6, court records say.
