Plymouth County, IOWA – According to the Le Mars Police Department, this unfortunate accident occurred right after 5 p.m. Tuesday.
It happened in the 100 block of 5th Avenue SW in Le Mars.
Le Mars Police Department officers responded to a report of a crash.
The responding officers discovered that Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on 5th Avenue SW.
The 10-year-old boy was traveling westbound from the sidewalk area when he was struck by the Corolla.
The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
His name is Elijah Peters and he was later pronounced dead.
The 21-year-old driver of the Toyota, Diego Gomez, was not injured.
This incident remains under investigation.
