Davenport, IA – On Thursday, December 4, 2024, Davenport Police Chief Jeffery Bladel announced significant reductions in violent crime during a media briefing. The latest statistics highlighted improvements in public safety achieved through community collaboration, targeted interventions, and data-driven policing strategies.

Chief Bladel praised the collective efforts of the Davenport Police Department, community advocates, and partner organizations in addressing firearm-related incidents. “The improvements highlight the strength of collaboration, fueled by prevention efforts in partnership with various community organizations, intervention strategies developed through close cooperation between law enforcement and community partners, and essential enforcement actions carried out by a skilled and dedicated team,” he said.

### Key Crime Reduction Statistics (January 1–November 30, 2024):
– **Shots Fired:** Incidents decreased by 26.6% compared to 2023, with 88 cases reported in 2024, down from 120 in 2023 and 265 in 2020. Over five years, shots fired incidents dropped by 66.7%.
– **Non-Fatal Gunshot Victims:** Numbers fell by 44.1%, with 19 victims in 2024 compared to 34 in 2023.
– **Stolen Vehicles:** A 36.4% decrease was recorded, with 288 stolen vehicle reports in 2024, down from 453 in 2023 (*statistics reflect data from January 1–October 31 each year*).

Chief Bladel expressed gratitude for the community’s role in achieving these milestones. “The progress we are making in addressing violent crime and reducing the impact of firearms is a testament to the collective efforts of our community advocates, partner organizations, and the dedicated work of our police officers and professional staff. By working together with a shared vision of safety, we are fostering a community where everyone can thrive.”

He encouraged residents to stay vigilant and actively participate in crime prevention. The police urged the community to report suspicious activity through direct contact or anonymous reporting channels to ensure continued progress in building a stronger, safer Davenport.
