Davenport, IA – As the Great Mississippi Valley Fair kicks off this week at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, the Davenport Police Department issued a list of safety reminders to help families stay safe while enjoying the festivities.
Officers encouraged fairgoers to stay hydrated, wear closed-toe shoes for protection, and avoid wandering away from their group.
Police also reminded parents to keep a close eye on their children, suggesting they write a guardian’s phone number on a child’s arm and take a photo of them before entering the fairgrounds in case they become separated.
Attendees were also advised to check the weather, wear sunscreen and bright clothing, and establish a designated meeting place for their group.
The department emphasized the importance of remaining seated on rides if they stop unexpectedly and recommended asking permission before approaching animals.
