Suspect died, officer injured after both were hit by vehicle during foot chase

Des Moines, IOWA – According to the Des Moines Police Department, this unfortunate incident occurred on Monday.

It happened in the 3800 block of SE 14th Street.

Des Moines Police Department officer initiated a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect then provided a false name and fled on foot. 

Officials said there was a physical struggle between the suspect and the responding officer.

The suspect fled again and both the suspect and the officer were hit by an oncoming vehicle.

Police said both were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The 31-year-old male suspect died on Tuesday morning and the extent of the officer’s injuries is unknown at this time.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle.

This incident remains under investigation.
