Lee County, IOWA – According to the Fort Madison Police Department, the shooting occurred around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.
It happened in the 4200 block of Avenue L in Fort Madison.
Fort Madison Police Department officers responded to a shooting call.
When the officers arrived on scene, they found the 15-year-old victim in a bedroom with a gunshot wound.
Police say the victim was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
The 17-year-old suspect, Dimari Meredith, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
The suspect was caught two blocks from the scene.
The victim’s name and information about a possible motive have not yet been released.
Authorities say the weapon was found inside the victim’s home.
