Davenport, IOWA – According to the police officials, his name is JohnVontreal Miller and he was taken into custody on Friday.
The 19-year-old man is now facing multiple charges, including: interference with official acts and eluding, interference with official acts resulting in serious injury, use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime and fourth-degree theft.
This incident occurred right before 10 a.m. Friday.
Iowa State Patrol trooper reportedly saw the suspect’s vehicle (Hyundai Elantra) traveling 83 in a 65 mph zone south on Highway 61.
The responding trooper then pursued the vehicle, which turned west on 65th Street in Davenport and then began to slow down.
As the suspect’s vehicle approached the 5800 block of Elmore, the 19-year-old driver opened the door and jumped out.
The troopers said a gun slid away from the suspect as he rolled on the ground.
The firearm was recovered with a loaded magazine with an empty chamber.
The 19-year-old suspect reportedly threw his phone and wallet before he stopped and was handcuffed.
The responding trooper sustained an injury to his right leg, officials said.
