Dallas County, IOWA – According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, this incident occurred on Sunday.
It happened at 22760 Laredo Trail in rural Adel.
Right before 8 p.m. Sunday, the 911 caller told the dispatcher that someone poured gasoline inside the house and lit it on fire.
Minburn Fire Department crews and the Dallas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene.
The house sustained significant damage from the fire.
Deputies said that 2 people suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
On April 13, the suspect was released from the hospital.
He was arrested and transported to the Dallas County Jail.
The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Jason Weigum.
He is now charged with 2 counts of Attempted Murder, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree and Arson 1st Degree.
Deputies said that Gerard Thompson is still receiving care at the Burn Treatment Center in Iowa City for 2nd and 3rd degree burns he received from the fire.
