58-year-old suspect arrested for murder of ex-girlfriend, police say

Des Moines, IOWA – According to the Des Moines Police Department, this incident occurred right after 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

It happened at 3326 University Ave.

Des Moines Police Department officers responded to a disturbance call.

Officers arrived and learned that Rhonda’s ex-boyfriend, 58-year-old Tony Arterberry, had been violent towards Rhonda in the recent past.

The responding officers entered the home to check on the 56-year-old victim, later identified as Rhonda Rhonda.

The victim was found deceased within the home.

Evidence of a violent attack was observed and detectives were called to the scene.

Investigators determined that the victim’s ex-boyfriend, 58-year-old Tony Arterberry, was a person of interest in this investigation.

Just 2 hours later, two patrol officers located the suspect walking in the downtown area. 

He was arrested and and charged with Murder – 1st Degree and other charges, police said.

This incident remains under investigation.
