Davenport, IA – On the morning of July 24, 2025, the Davenport Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the 5900 block of Woodland Avenue.

The call came in around 5:00 a.m., prompting a large response including three engines, two ladder trucks, an auto-aid ladder from Bettendorf, and a District Chief — totaling 25 personnel.

Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the basement. Fortunately, all occupants and pets had safely exited the home after being alerted by working smoke alarms.

Firefighters located the fire in the basement and were able to contain it to that area, though the rest of the house sustained significant smoke damage.

Crews remained on the scene for more than an hour to ventilate the structure and begin investigating the cause. MidAmerican Energy also assisted by securing utilities.

No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Officials emphasized the importance of working smoke alarms and encouraged residents to contact the department at 563-326-7907 to learn more about its free smoke alarm program.
