DAVENPORT – Davenport Mayor Mike Matson is addressing recent gun violence in the area. On Sunday morning, a 19-year-old man was killed in a shooting. Later that same day, a mother of five died after getting shot at Chuck E. Cheese. DAVENPORT, Iowa – A Davenport woman charged in the fatal October shooting of 29-year-old Eloise Chairs at a Davenport Chuck E. Cheese pleaded not guilty Thursday. Scott County Court records show Treshonda Pollion, 24, filed a written plea through her attorney, Michael Motto, to one count of second-degree murder, a Class B felony. DAVENPORT, Iowa — Black Americans, one of the communities hardest-hit by Covid-19, are now some of the most wary of the new vaccines. A survey from the Kaiser Family Foundation finds that nearly a third of Black Americans are still hesitant of receiving the vaccine. While a report compiled by the NAACP, UnidosUS, and COVID Collaborative showed only 14% of Black Americans trust the safety of a new vaccine. DAVENPORT, IOWA – Three people, two of them from Davenport, were killed Friday in a two-vehicle crash in Bureau County. The accident happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. at Illinois Route 40 and Kentville Road, north of Bradford, Ill., and south of Buda, Ill., says a news release from the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office. From Davenport were a 39-year-old man, who was driving a 1999 Lexus, and an 11-year old girl, his passenger. Both died at the scene. DAVENPORT, – The Davenport Community School District’s school board made a decision Monday night to approve Dr. Robert Kobylski’s request to retire as superintendent. On Friday, December 11th, Kobylski submitted a request to retire. The school board voted unanimously during the December 14th school board meeting. This comes nearly 3 months after the Iowa Department of Education voted to temporarily replace him over concerns the district was not correcting issues in special education and other areas. Currently, T.J. Schneckloth is serving as Davenport’s interim superintendent. Schneckloth previously served as interim superintendent in October 2018 after former Superintendent Art Tate resigned.
