Linn County, IOWA – According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, this unfortunate accident occurred right before 11 p.m. late Saturday night. It happened at the intersection of Highway 13 and County Home Rd. Linn County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a crash. The responding deputies discovered that two vehicles crashed at the location. Deputies said a 22-year-old driver reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign while driving southbound on Highway 13 and struck a vehicle that was traveling eastbound on County Home Road. The school district reportedly fired the assistant principle at an elementary school after the educator read a children’s book to a second-grade class. The education administrator said that he used to read the book at his previous school and didn’t think twice about sharing it with the second-graders. The superintendent of the school district wrote in his termination letter that the educator reportedly showed a lack of professionalism and impaired judgment when he picked the book. Cedar Rapids, IOWA – According to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, this incident occurred right before 11 p.m. late Thursday night. It happened on 9th Avenue SW. Cedar Rapids Police Department officers responded to a report of a stabbing. The responding officers found one male victim. Police said the victim suffered not life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The victim’s age or identity have not yet been released. Muscatine, IOWA – According to the city officials, the road will be closed for 45 days as the Graham Construction Company completes demolition work on the former Musser Public Library building and connects utility services. Officials have announced that the work is expected to take 45 days and should be completed by April 30 depending on the weather. A one-block detour has been established that will take Iowa Avenue traffic to Sycamore Street and back to Iowa Avenue. Maquoketa, IOWA – Maquoketa Fire and Rescue officials said this unfortunate incident occurred right after 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. It happened on Pleasant St. Maquoketa Fire/Rescue crews responded to a report of a residential structure fire. The responding crews discovered that the attic was fully involved and saw heavy fire coming out the front windows and door. After several hours it was determined to bring in an excavator to tear down the house for the safety of the firefighters. No one was injured and three dogs were rescued. The emergency department expansion and remodel project will result in a larger and higher functioning department to improve experience for patients and their families.
