Linn County, IOWA – LCSO officials said the police chase started around 3:09 a.m. early Monday morning. Linn County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle along I-380 for speeding. The 45-year-old driver reportedly became non-compliant and sped away. The brief police chase ended on North Towne Court NE. The 45-year-old driver and the single occupant of the vehicle was arrested and taken into custody. His name is LaShaun Perry and he is now facing multiple charges, including: attempting to elude, interference with official acts, operating while intoxicated, open container, and other charges. The unfortunate couple is left mourning the loss of their 7-year-old daughter, who died within 72 hours of testing positive for COVID-19. Both parents said said that their daughter had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, since she only recently became eligible and they were still considering it. When the 27-year-old pregnant mother arrived at the local hospital, doctors thought the mother had pre-eclampsia and told her they needed to deliver the baby immediately. The doctors reportedly gave her medication to induce labour and things got even worse. Minutes into labour, her heart stopped beating and she had to be brought back to life. Cedar Rapids, IOWA – According to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department officials, this incident occurred around 12:17 a.m. early Sunday morning. It happened in the 300 block of 5th Avenue Southeast. Cedar Rapids Fire Department crews responded to a report of a residential structure fire.  The responding crews saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the 9th floor that quickly spread to the 10th.  Firefighters reportedly used a combination of external firefighting apparatus including high-rise ladders, and suppression systems in the building to attack the fire. Ames, IOWA – Ames Police Department officials said the fatal stabbing occurred around 2:51 a.m. early Saturday morning.  It happened on 7th Street. Ames Police Department officers responded to a report of a stabbing. The responding officers found one adult male victim. Police said the 39-year-old victim suffered severe stab wounds and was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he later died. He was later identified as Maccarone Declements. Bettendorf, IOWA – According to the city officials, there is no change to collection services. Officials have announced that the City of Bettendorf will provide garbage, bulky waste and recycling collection services on February 21. All items should be placed at collection sites no later than 6:00 a.m.   Transit will operate on its normal schedule, officials said. The library will be open 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and the Life Fitness Center will be open 5:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. More information here.
