Des Moines, IOWA – According to the Des Moines Police Department, this unfortunate incident occurred on Nov. 27.  It happened at a restaurant in the 1200 block on East Euclid Avenue. Cedar Rapids, IOWA – According to the statement, the awards include grants to support organizations and programs, as well as distributions from donor-advised, designated, scholarship and agency funds. Officials have announced that this includes a $200,000 grant from the Creating Safe, Equitable and Thriving Communities Fund. This grant will support the implementation of Group Violence Intervention strategies in Cedar Rapids. In 2021, the Community Foundation distributed over $13.9 million in grants. These grant programs are supported by donors. The next grant deadline at the Community Foundation is on Tuesday, February 15.  More information here.

According to reports, the 82-year-old woman decided to get together with friends to play cards and asked everyone beforehand if they were vaccinated. One attendee allegedly failed to disclose were sick with COVID-19. She reportedly died of Coronavirus after contracting the illness from an infected friend who hid their diagnosis. The 82-year-old woman from Ohio, Barb Bartolovich, is a blood cancer survivor. She was reportedly vaccinated and took the necessary precautions, including only socializing with like-minded people amid the pandemic, according to reports. Polk County, IOWA – According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, his name is Jack Waters and he was walking across Northeast 14th Street when he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe. This unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday. Authorities said the 77-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe stopped and is reportedly cooperating with authorities. This incident remains under investigation. Davenport, IOWA – According to the Davenport Fire Department, this unfortunate incident occurred right after 12 p.m. Sunday. It happened near the intersection of Rockingham Road and Nevada Avenue. Davenport Fire Department crews responded to a report of a structure fire. The responding crew saw smoke coming from the garage. They were able to extinguish the blaze in just 20 minutes.  No one was injured in this incident, officials said. The cause of fire remains under investigation. Waterloo, IOWA – According to the Waterloo Police Department, this unfortunate incident occurred around 1:10 a.m. early Monday morning. It happened at 620 W 6th Street. While the responding officers were investigating an assault at the location, the 27-year-old suspect reportedly got into a physical altercation with an officer. His name is Everett Ross and he reportedly pushed the officer and slapped his arm. The 27-year-old man then continued to resist arrest by allegedly grabbing the officer’s gun. According to the statement, the teacher quarantined herself in the plane’s bathroom for five hours after finding out that she had COVID-19. Her throat began to hurt about halfway through her flight. She had brought some rapid test kits with her in case she needed them while traveling. “I just took my Coronavirus rapid test and I brought it into the bathroom, and within two seconds, the test came back positive,” the woman said. An Amazon delivery driver went above and beyond her call of duty to save a customer’s daughter from an aggressive pit bull. The 19-year-old girl was outside when she saw the pit bill roaming around. She called her over and began petting it as he seemed quite calm and friendly.
