Polk County, IOWA – According to the Polk County Health Department, the infected person was vaccinated but had not received a booster shot. Health officials also said that the infected person had not been traveling. The person is experiencing mild symptoms, health officials said. The Polk County Health Department is now working to notify people who were in close contact of the individual. The omicron variant was first detected in Iowa on Dec. 9, found in a Black Hawk County minor who was asymptomatic. Cerro Gordo County, IOWA – According to the court documents, his name is Dominick Degner and he is charged with first-degree murder for the death of 24-year-old Tonette Wolfe. Prosecutors said the victim’s body was found in a burning home at 123 N. Tennessee Avenue in Mason City on Sept. 7. The 28-year-old defendant and the victim both lived at the residence, prosecutors said. Degner is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail. This incident remains under investigation. According to the court documents, the 32-year-old defendant was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2020 murder of 44-year-old man. The defendant reportedly lured the victim to his home and beat him with a blunt object. He then hanged the victim by the neck until he was dead. He kept the victim’s remains in the basement and showed off the body to friends for nearly a week. He also bragged about the murder before dumping the victim’s body in a ditch and setting it on fire. Burlington, IOWA – According to the Burlington Fire Department, this unfortunate incident occurred right after 8 p.m. Tuesday. It happened at 14876 Washington Rd. Burlington Fire Department crews responded to a report of a mobile home fire. The responding crews saw a fire coming from the rear side of the mobile home. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Officials said that the fire started in the back bedroom. The single-family mobile home sustained an estimated $20,000 in damages to the structure and $5,000 in damages to contents. It happened at the Johnson Gas Appliance Company located at E Avenue NW and Ellis Boulevard NW. Cedar Rapids Fire Department crews responded to a report of a building fire.
