Iowa man charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of 55-year-old man in Wapello County

Ottumwa, IOWA – According to the Ottumwa Police Department, his name is Douglas Raymond Spurgeon and he is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 55-year-old Gerald William Sapp. 

This incident occurred on Thursday.

Ottumwa Police Department officers responded to a report of stabbing.

The responding officers found the 55-year-old victim behind a home suffering from multiple stab wounds. 

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 42-year-old suspect was arrested several hours later.

He is jailed without bond.

This incident remains under investigation.
