Wayne County, IOWA – According to the Iowa State Patrol, the fatal accident occurred around 8:22 a.m. Friday morning.
It happened on Highway 14.
Iowa State Patrol troopers responded to a report of a crash.
The responding troopers discovered that the 44-year-old man was driving northbound when his vehicle swerved in front of an oncoming tractor-trailer.
According to ISP, the driver of the tractor-trailer tried to avoid the vehicle but was unable.
The tractor-trailer and the vehicle collided head on.
The 44-year-old driver of the vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was later identified as Brian Irving.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, officials said.
