Parents are demanding the school district change its bullying policies after a student poured chocolate milk on their daughter’s head before coming back and punching the girl in the head several times. The student’s parents said that the bullying incident at their daughter’s middle school was caught on camera and they are asking school officials to do something about it. The parents claim that the school officials have swept bullying under the rug for years and said they are embarrassed and infuriated with school leaders. “She got hit in the back of her head multiple times hard. She needed to be seen by a doctor and for a principal or a nurse or for anyone to say she didn’t need to go home, the sense of urgency for her safety was just not there.” the girl’s dad reportedly said.
According to FOX19, the 36-second video, which has been posted on social media, was reportedly taken during lunch hour at the Wentzvlie Middle School in MO. The video reportedly shows one student approach another student, later identified as Byata, and pour chocolate milk on her head. After 20 seconds, the student comes back and punches Byata in the head several times.
After the incident, the school officials reportedly called Byata’s parents, explained the incident and advised that Byata didn’t need to go home. But, her parents said that their daughter got hit in the back of her head multiple times hard and needed to be seen by a doctor. After the incident, the school officials reportedly told Byata that the other student won’t be expelled and ‘something like this usually gets a maximum four days out of school suspension.’
Byata’s parents, Melissa Alan and Paul Tripp, reportedly told KSDK that this isn’t the first instance of bullying involving their daughter. Two weeks ago, Byata accidentally stepped on another student’s shoe, and the girl punched her in the head over and over again.
Alan and Tripp said that the school officials have swept bullying under the rug for years and said they are embarrassed and infuriated with school leaders.
Melissa Alan reportedly told FOX19:
“For a school district to allow something like that to happen and not intervene right away or be aware that a situation like that is occurring, it’s mind-baffling to me.”
The girl’s father told KSDK:
“She got hit in the back of her head multiple times hard. She needed to be seen by a doctor and for a principal or a nurse or for anyone to say she didn’t need to go home, the sense of urgency for her safety was just not there.”
Byata’s parents also said that they’ve been to their daughter’s school several times and talked with school leaders about ongoing bullying involving their daughter. Alan, Tripp and other parents are begging the school officials to act and make changes. They also plan to go to the next school board meeting to have these issues addressed.
According to KMOV, the school district released the following statement:
“We had staff supervising the incident that occurred yesterday at lunch. We do not tolerate this type of behavior in our schools. Our team has completed its investigation and appropriate discipline has been given. The WSD works hard to create a space that is safe for learning, and we will continue to prioritize students’ well-being as we head into summer.”
Byata’s parents also said that they are pressing charges against the student who poured milk on and repeatedly punched their daughter.
“If you hit back or if you defend yourself, you’re suspended as well. That’s insane to me. All this crazy stuff, and it’s mainly because of bullying and because the adults won’t take it seriously and actually do something about it,” Tripp reportedly said.
