IOWA – According to the court documents, his name is Brian Whorton and he pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud. Prosecutors say the 55-year-old man fraudulently received more than $13,000 in pandemic unemployment funds from Arizona. The defendant withdrew some of the funds in cash for his own use and used a Bitcoin ATM to send funds to others involved in the scheme. Whorton was also ordered to pay the unemployment money back. Marion, IOWA – According to the police officials, this unfortunate incident occurred at the Azure Apartments on 10th Street and Boyson Road in Marion, IA.  Officers responded to a call about an unresponsive infant. Police say the child was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident is still under investigation and an autopsy will be conducted. Davenport, IA – According to the court documents, his name is Preston Andrew Cole and he must serve 10 years of supervised release once he completes his prison term. He was also ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution. The 28-year-old man pleaded guilty to a child pornography charge in April and was sentenced this week to 144 months in federal prison. A probation officer did a routine check on the defendant and noticed a wi-fi router and multiple electronic devices. The 28-year-old man was interviewed and admitted to viewing child pornography on the devices and consuming alcohol.

According to the police officials, a 19-year-old woman is charged for setting a couple on fire and killing one of the victims. Authorities are looking for a 19-year-old woman accused of setting a man on fire area and killing him. Before he died, he told investigators that a woman entered the residence and poured an unknown substance on him and lit him on fire. CLINTON, Iowa – According to the court documents, his name is Ray Daytrel Hopkins and he pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of child pornography on April 9 and admitted to knowingly possessing the pictures and videos. Hopkins was sentenced Tuesday.  The 45-year-old man was arrested after an SD card that belonged to him was turned over to the authorities. Police say the SD card contained multiple videos of nude minors. Investigators also found sexually explicit pictures of minors on his phone as well. The 45-year-old man was also ordered to serve 10 years of supervised release after his prison term.

Davenport, IA – According to the health officials, there have been 6,268 COVID-19 related deaths in Iowa since the pandemic began. The Iowa Department of Public Health reported 7,619 new COVID-19 cases in the last seven days. 432,982 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began. The Iowa Department of Public Health says that there are currently 498 Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19. 17,829 Iowans have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, for a total of 1,593,557.
