DAVENPORT, IOWA – Acooking fire caused a brief evacuation of an apartment complex in the early morning hours Friday. The Davenport Fire Department responded to an emergency call at 1:32 a.m. Friday and were dispatched to a three-story apartment complex in the 2300 block of Emerald Drive. When crews arrived on scene, they found smoke in the northwest corner of the complex. Crews were able to enter the apartment and quickly extinguished the fire. During the daily briefing, Dr. Ezike said she wanted to dispel rumors circulating about the vaccine, saying: the vaccine does not contain a tracking chip, there’s no evidence to show it causes infertility, and the vaccine will not result in you getting COVID-19. DAVENPORT, Iowa -Hy-Vee is introducing an automated cleaning system that fully cleans and sanitizes shopping carts after every use. By mid-November, more than 200 Hy-Vee stores across its eight-state region will have a Sterile Cart system in operation. Hy-Vee is the first grocery chain to implement the fully automated sanitization system across its company. Iowa – The speaker of the Iowa House of Representatives says House Republicans are prioritizing keeping the state budget in check, expanding child care access, and giving families more choice in education during the 2021 legislative session. House Speaker Pat Grassley, R-New Hartford, said the House GOP is discussing potentially using some of the state’s $305 million budget surplus for pandemic-related relief. Some Democrats have criticized Republican leaders for relying almost entirely on the federal government to pay for assistance for Iowans, and are calling on them to spend the surplus and some of the $770 million in reserves. DAVENPORT, IOWA – Four juveniles were charged with theft after an early morning crash of a stolen vehicle in Davenport. It happened around 12:28 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Locust and Harrison Street. Police say a stolen SUV was reported to be driving recklessly eastbound on Locust Street and struck two vehicles at the intersection and continued to the Locust and Main Street area, where several juveniles ran from the vehicle. All four juveniles were charged with vehicle theft and interference.

DAVENPORT, IOWA – A Davenport boy started making candy cane sleighs for employees at his favorite Dollar General store. He then expanded his operation by making some for seniors in nursing homes. Brent Reighard wants to continue to make sleighs and bring them to nurses his holiday season. However, the funds to make more sleighs is not there. DAVENPORT, IOWA – Davenport police arrested a man in connection with a shooting incident at NorthPark Mall. Isaiah Jeremiah Randolph, 18, of 1701 Iowa Dr., LeClaire, is charged with one count of interference with official acts with a firearm, a Class D felony under Iowa law that carries a prison sentence of five years. Randolph, who was arrested several hours after the incident Sunday at the mall, also is charged with one count of carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor that carries a prison sentence of two years. DAVENPORT, IOWA – It was another terrible COVID-19 week in the Quad-Cities. And the effects of Thanksgiving haven’t even truly surfaced yet. A total of 37 people died from Sunday through Friday, 29 of them in Rock Island County. Rock Island and Scott counties are also approaching a total of 21,000 positive cases since the pandemic began. Scott County reported two more COVID-19 deaths Friday and 131 more positive tests. Rock Island County results were not available.
