DAVENPORT, IOWA – The trial for the man accused of killing University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts has been delayed again because of COVID-19. Christian Bahena Rivera is accused of stabbing Tibbetts to death in June 2018. The trial date has been rescheduled to May 17 in Davenport, with a pretrial conference set for April 15. This is the third time the trial has been delayed. Originally set for Feb. 4, the trial was rescheduled in April to Sept. 29 after Bahena Rivera’s lawyers appealed regarding an evidence-suppression motion, claiming Rivera was given an incomplete reading of his Miranda rights.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Moline man was injured in a shooting in Davenport Sunday night. The Davenport Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 1500 block of Mound Street Dec. 20, 2020 just after 7 p.m., according to a statement from the department. Shots were fired from one vehicle into another vehicle, the statement said. A 29-year-old man was a passenger in the vehicle being shot at and suffered “serious, possible life-threatening injuries.” Officers are investigating the incident. DAVENPORT, Iowa — After 153 years, Davenport’s historic St. Mary’s Catholic Church will take on a new purpose, after the campus was purchased by the local nonprofit Humility Homes & Services. DAVENPORT, IOWA – A cooking fire was the apparent cause of an apartment fire Friday in the 2300 block of Emerald Drive, Davenport. The fire began shortly after 1:30 a.m., a news release says. When crews arrived, they saw smoke in the northwest corner of a three-story apartment complex. Crews entered the apartment and quickly extinguished the fire. Firefighters evacuated the uppers floors of the complex because of light smoke. The occupant, who was displaced, was checked by Medic responders and refused further medical attention. All other occupants were able to return to their apartments. No injuries were reported.
