DAVENPORT, Iowa — After 153 years, Davenport’s historic St. Mary’s Catholic Church will take on a new purpose, after the campus was purchased by the local nonprofit Humility Homes & Services. DAVENPORT, IOWA – A cooking fire was the apparent cause of an apartment fire Friday in the 2300 block of Emerald Drive, Davenport. The fire began shortly after 1:30 a.m., a news release says. When crews arrived, they saw smoke in the northwest corner of a three-story apartment complex. Crews entered the apartment and quickly extinguished the fire. Firefighters evacuated the uppers floors of the complex because of light smoke. The occupant, who was displaced, was checked by Medic responders and refused further medical attention. All other occupants were able to return to their apartments. No injuries were reported.

DAVENPORT, IOWA – One man was injured after being shot in the area of 1500 block of Mound Street in Davenport. Police say the 29-year-old from Moline was a passenger in a vehicle being shot at by people in another vehicle. He was “a walk-in patient” at Genesis Medical Center, but “is being treated for serious and possible life-threatening injuries,” according to police. DAVENPORT, Iowa – Many in the Quad Cities spent Thursday night celebrating Hanukkah, an eight-day Jewish holiday. Two local synagogues held virtual celebrations to honor the holiday, including Temple Emanuel and Chabad of the Quad Cities. “I think of it as a holiday that really celebrates the miracle of being dedicated to your identity your religion your faith. DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Davenport furniture store saw a fire break out in its loading dock in the afternoon of Tuesday, December 15. The Davenport Fire Department was dispatched to Simply Amish Furniture in the 3700 block of N Harrison Street just after 1:30 p.m. Early reports said that the fire broke out in the business’s loading dock, and grew to a large size.  This was confirmed by Fire Chief Mike Carlsten. DAVENPORT, Iowa — Year over year, car thefts have increased in the Quad Cities. On Monday, the Davenport Police Department and other law enforcement agencies from the Quad Cities launched the “Lock It Down, QC” campaign, which is a method of trying to prevent these crimes from happening. “Vehicle thefts are an almost 100% preventable crime,” said Davenport Police Chief Paul Sikorski.  “We are pleading with the Quad City region to please take this seriously and lock your vehicles, never leave your car running unattended and never leave your keys in your car.” From 2019 to 2020, car thefts are up…

LL Flooring and Pennwood Products put together a American flag made out of wood and stained with the stars and stripes and donated it to the department in a small event on Tuesday, December 9. DAVENPORT, IOWA – At least one person was transported from a crash shortly after 10:15 p.m. Saturday in the intersection of 2nd and Gaines streets, Davenport. Two vehicles were heavily damaged. Police talked to witnesses and cleaned up debris while a tow truck arrived at the scene. Local 4 News, the only station at the scene, saw one person taken away in an ambulance.
