IOWA – According to the police officials, his name is Todd Alan Laing Sr. and he was arrested Tuesday. Authorities say the suspect allegedly put his hands over his brother’s mouth on Nov. 11, expecting and intending to cause his death. The suffocation was witnessed by a family member. Authorities say the suspect later admitted to other witnesses after the fact that he had put his hands over his brother’s mouth. Linn County, IOWA – According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, this incident occurred right after 11 a.m. Wednesday. It happened at Central State Bank in Walford. Linn County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a robbery. Authorities say the suspect who committed the robbery was able to escape with an undisclosed amount of money. They say no weapon was displayed and no one was injured. The suspect was wearing at blue hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and a face mask. Johnson County, IOWA – According to the police officials, this unfortunate accident occurred right before 1 a.m. early Wednesday morning. It happened near mile marker 233 on Interstate 80 in Johnson County. Iowa State Patrol troopers responded to a report of a crash. 83-year-old driver with MG convertible made contact with both a Dodge Ram 3500 and Tesla, causing all three vehicles to crash. The driver of the MG convertible, Jimmi Danielson, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two driver suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment. A 27-year-old man who pleaded guilty three months ago to a federal hate crime was sentenced Thursday. Prosecutors say the defendant was sentenced to 16 years in prison for stabbing a Black man in the neck on Dec. 19, 2019. He stabbed a complete stranger because, in his words, the victim ‘was Black, and he doesn’t like Black people.’ The defendant was also sentenced to five years of supervised release. Des Moines, IOWA – According to the court documents, his name is Joseph Hansen and he was charged in May with possessing 5 or more grams of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. Officials say that the 40-year-old defendant was in possession of more than 850 grams of meth. Officials say that 1,497 drivers were cited for speeds that exceeded 100 mph. Violations increased 108% compared to the four-year average.
