Jones County, IOWa – According to the Iowa State Patrol, this unfortunate accident occurred around 12:45 a.m. early Friday morning. It happened in the 9300 block of County Road X40. Iowa State Patrol troopers responded to a report of a crash. The responding troopers discovered that Ford Focus entered the west ditch and rolled several times before hitting farm equipment. Two occupants were ejected from the vehicle. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment. Ottumwa, IOWA – According to the Ottumwa Police Department, his name is Douglas Raymond Spurgeon and he is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 55-year-old Gerald William Sapp.  This incident occurred on Thursday. Ottumwa Police Department officers responded to a report of stabbing. The responding officers found the 55-year-old victim behind a home suffering from multiple stab wounds.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The 42-year-old suspect was arrested several hours later. He is jailed without bond. This incident remains under investigation. Davenport, IOWA – According to the Davenport Police Department, this incident occurred right before 9 p.m. Thursday. It happened in the 1400 block of West 15th Street. Davenport Police Department officers responded to a shooting call. The responding officers discovered that the shooting occurred between Fillmore and Washington streets. The 53-year-old nurse who lost both her legs and an arm after a cough turned to sepsis was found hanged by her husband, an inquest was told. She spent nine weeks in a hospital fighting for her life while in a coma. The woman lost four of her fingers on her right hand, her left arm below the elbow and both of her legs.
