Davenport, IOWA – According to the court documents, the 25-year-old defendant pleaded guilty on Friday. His name is Darryl Merritt and he pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and first-degree robbery. The defendant will be sentenced on Sept. 30, 2022. The fatal shooting occurred on March 5, 2017. It happened at the Brady Street Stadium parking lot. Davenport Police Department officers responded to a shooting call. When the officers arrived on scene, they found one adult male victim. Cedar Rapids, IOWA – According to the police officials, this incident occurred right before 4 a.m. early Saturday morning. It happened in the 2200 block of Glass Road NE. Cedar Rapids Police Department officers conducted a vehicle stop for erratic driving. The driver of the vehicle brandished a firearm and gunfire was exchanged between the driver and two Cedar Rapids police officers. The driver sustained gunshot injures and is currently being treated at the University of Iowa Hospital.   The police officers were not injured, officials said. Davenport, IOWA – According to the Davenport Police Department, the shooting occurred right after 2 a.m. early Tuesday morning. It happened on West Lombard Street. Davenport Police Department officers responded to a shooting call. The responding officers saw the suspect’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.  The 13-year-old driver of the vehicle, who also suffered a gunshot wound, was arrested and taken into custody. Mason City, IOWA – According to the Iowa State Patrol, the fatal crash occurred right after 11 p.m. late Monday night. It happened near the intersection of 265th Street and Yarrow Avenue. Iowa State Patrol troopers responded to a report of a crash. The responding troopers discovered that the 58-year-old driver, later identified as Timothy Hoy, was traveling eastbound when his Nissan Altima crossed the center line and hit a Pontiac G5 head-on. Bremer County, IOWA – According to the Iowa DNR, the construction will not impact boat traffic on the rest of the marsh. Officials also announced that this project will repair more than two miles of the 70-year-old dike network, improve three miles of in-marsh channels used for boating access, remove sediment to create deep-water areas and fix the water control structure.
